Should I Buy....or Not?

Hello, everyone~!

Today, I'll be talking about a thing that I've been thinking about lately.

It's about.... whether or not I should buy iPhone, which arrives in Japan soon.

I downloaded a keynote address by Steve Jobs, a CEO of Apple, from iTunes when I heard that he finally announced the debut of iPhone. At the time, I almost fell in love with functions it got and imagined what it would be like to have mine.

After waiting for almost one year, it'll come out finally in Japan! But I didn't get excited very much somehow when the news about iPhone's debut in Japan was released. It's just because I've never been able to be so passionate about iPhone or it's just too late. In addtion to that, I've heard about negative things about iPhone. I do understand nothing is perfect in this world, but hearing the things like that let me down and I just can't make a decision!

My father said he would definitely change his cell phone to iPhone when it comes out, because a deal its company offers is cheeper than now and having iPhone mesmerizes him.

What about myself? Hmmm.... I think I can stick to Docomo. (Docomo is a big telecom company in Japan) But once I take a glimpse of iPhone, I cannot but keep looking at it!

It's important to be cool when you buy something, but usability is also crutial at the same time. Don't you think? So, if you have your own iPhone or friends who have iPhone, would you please tell me your opinion?

Not only do I not have an iPhone, but my cell phone is years old, does not function as a camera, and although it has IM capability, I have never signed up for IM! (Am I a Luddite?)

My sister just gave me her old iPod (the first one that came out) but I have no idea what to do with it (yet).

Maybe one of my students can explain it to me! :-)

Obachang~!

Last week, my brother and his girlfriend woke up at 5am(!!!) to line up and buy the iPhone.

The iPhone is very very nice, but it's a much bigger jump in technology here in the States than in is in Japan. I say this because here in the U.S., people only really used cell phones to call/send text messages. In Japan it was more normal to do things like surf the Internet on your cell phone.

I'm not sure about the situation in Japan, but in the U.S. you must buy an unlimited data plan with your iPhone, so each month is about US$150 for the cell phone bill. (I can't believe my brother is paying so much!!)

I'm not sure if you've already decided to buy it, but it is a lot of fun (and very usable!) As long as you use it a lot, I'm sure you'll get your money's worth :D

(Sorry for the long comment!!)

Obachang~!!

Have you gotten your iPhone yet??

A lot of my friends have iPhones, as well as many customers who visit our store. I'm usually fortunate enough to play with them all the time and here's what I think of it:

It's definitely a neat piece of equipment. If you're looking for something that you can impress your friends with, then iPhone is, without a doubt, THE gadget that you want. Especially the zooming and scrolling functions you can perform with your thumb and index finger... That's really sweet.

On the other hand, since it's phone/camera/mp3 player all put together in one, there are many limitations. First, the storage space isn't as large as the regular iPod, so if you're a song collector who likes to have all of your songs in your iPod, then iPhone won't do you any good. Second, camera, from my experience, isn't as good of a quality as the regular digital cameras out there, so you'll probably end up not using it. Third, even though iPhone has somewhat of a big screen that you can watch movies on, let's face it, it's still too darn small for movies! Lastly, the keypads are also touch screen, which makes it kind of hard to press the right keys when punching in phone numbers.

So my conclusion is this: iPhones are made for (excellent) showing, but it's still a phone, not a camera or mp3 player. And they often get stolen in the U.S.

I hope this helps!
